BASIC SQUAT
Stand tall, feet hip-width apart and hands on hips or at the low back.
Inhale while flexing the hips and knees to lower, as if sitting back into a chair. Keep the heels and soles of the feet firmly rooted into the ground, body weight supported over the heels and the rib cage lifted. Arms can be extended in front to help with balance. Lower as far as possible while maintaining good form but not past thighs parallel to the ground (figure 7.4).
Exhale while pressing into the ground, straightening the legs and returning to standing.
